As a Performer
Alex believes in singing across the genres and doesn’t put one style above another. Whether it’s singing Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi, Tony in Westside Story, singing backup vocals for Josh Groban, or writing his own music, Alex loves the art of singing. With a M.M in Vocal Performance and concentration in opera, Alex has used his classical training as the foundation allowing him to tackle musical diversity in operatic, musical theater, choral works, and contemporary music projects. As an instrumentalist, Alex has played guitar and piano for live gigs as a solo act and with a group. As a guitarist, he has played in the band for musical theater productions. Alex knows what it takes to be successful as a working performer.
As a Teacher
Alex strives for all of his students to sing with their unique voice. He teaches his students to sing without a manufactured tone and to have a free and healthy singing technique that can reliably be used for years. He is experienced working with all types of singers from the young and new-to-music to those who are more seasoned and experienced, having taught at the Northwest Children’s Theater , Portland State University, Metropolitan Performing Arts, Spotlight Theater, and in his private voice studio. Alex has also music directed many shows with both community and professional theaters in the area. being on both sides of the table has really helped him curate what the growing musician needs to know to get that next gig.
